Governors Rock Lookout
There are many great places throughout the Pyrenees that offer gorgeous, panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the Governors Rock Lookout is one of them.
The Governor Rock Lookout Tower and Picnic Area is located on the No2 Creek Track in Percydale in the Pyrenees State Forest. The track to the lookout is a gravel road and quite windey but still suitable for 2wd vehicles. The road runs alongside a sharp drop off, so drive carefully.
There’s a small parking area beside the road next to the picnic area. From here it is a 200m walk up to the lookout tower – a tall platform with steel steps and railing which offers spectacular views of hills, bushland and farmland. You can extend your walk along the walking track which will will meet up again with No2 Creek Track, and you can follow the road back up to the picnic area.
Along the No2 Creek Track on your way back to the picnic area you will find Governor Rock, a platform-like rock extending out over the cliff beside the road. Sir Rohan Delacombe, Governor of Victoria, stood on this rock on the 4th December 1964, on his visit to commemorate the centenary of Avoca Shire.
