Nestled along the Avoca River, at the foothills of the Pyrenees mountain range, is the pretty little town of Avoca. Avoca has an active arts community and is home to the Gallery 127 at the historic railway station.
The gallery, which forms part of the Avoca Community Arts and Gardens hub, presents a program of exhibitions featuring local and regional artists throughout the year, and is responsible for coordinating the annual Avoca Art Show.
In 2021 Avoca joined the Silo Arts trail when artist Jimmi Buscombe was commissioned to paint the image of the endangered Barking Owl on the road facing side of the grain silo. There are future plans to use the other side of the silo as a projection space for digital and video art in the future and the creation of artist studios and an arts market in the disused buildings located within the Arts and Gardens hub.
Visitors to the town can also enjoy the Garden of Fire and Water, a commemorative garden celebrating the Chinese heritage within the region, as well as visiting the many cafes, curio and secondhand goods shops along the main street.
There are camping sites along the river and the Avoca township welcomes the many caravans and RVs that stop on their way through to the Pyrenees wine region.
