Beaufort
Located on the Western Highway, 35 minutes from Ballarat, the township of Beaufort is dotted with small cafés and eateries serving local produce and home-made treats, some accompanied by the fine wines or beers the region is known for.
Alongside the many cafés, the main street is also dotted with craft and antique shops that exhibit and sell beautifully crafted pieces, and galleries displaying local artists’ works and unique collections.
Beaufort Lake provides the opportunity for many water activities from fishing and boating, to skiing and swimming. Around its shores and in the neighbouring reserve you’ll find a network of walking tracks and exercise equipment—a perfect way to stretch your legs and walk off the delights of the town’s cafés!
Drop into the museum that celebrates the man who invented vegemite! Cyril Callister was born on the outskirts of Beaufort. Locals are proud to call themselves the home of vegemite. The museum educates visitors about the life, work and legacy of Cyril Callister. It celebrates all things Vegemite and hosts tours, speakers and events with a portion of the proceeds returned to the Cyril Callister Foundation scholarship program.
One of Beaufort’s major attractions is the Mt Cole State Forest which is a spectacular natural experience. Here you can discover temperate rainforests, breathtaking views and waterfalls.
