Walks (Short and Long)
With Mt Cole right on our doorstep, let’s lace up the shoes and go exploring. Lush fern gullies, granite outcrops, abundant native birdlife, and the rare Mt Cole Grevillea await you in this secret corner of Victoria. These walks will suit a range of hikers no matter what your level of fitness, or experience.
If you would like a longer hike the Beeripmo Walk is a superb 17km trail that traverses the peaks of the Mount Cole range. Named after the local Beeripmo Balug Aboriginals, who refer to their home as Beereep-Beereep – meaning “wild mount” walkers are rewarded with commanding vistas of the surrounding basalt plains and Grampians. Tackle it in a day, or enquire about a guided overnight walk.
Family rides, learning to ride, easy rolls, MTB trail rides, gravel grinds, free downhill, flashpacking, CX, cross country. You name it Mount Cole has it. Even a couple of fantastic road loops. Cave Hill Creeks band of enthusiastic guides love their bikes and love hitting the trails. So if you’ve just bought a bike, want to get out and ride with the kids, or are looking to discover new trails then this is the adventure for you. Cave Hill Creek can provide you with a bike if you don’t have one.
Want exhilaration? Then look no further. Raise your heart rate, and walk away with a fantastic sense of accomplishment. The following climbing experiences are available for ages of 7 and over.
Abseil: Our abseil site is located at Raglan Falls about a 25min walk into the Mount Cole State Forest. The cliff offers beautiful views of the surrounding forest of ancient granite and ferns.
Giant’s Ladder: With a buddy, work together to climb the 12 meter high Giants Ladder. Yep it’s a ladder for giants – the rungs are 800mm apart. A real test of agility and a fear of heights.
Crate Stack: A test of balance and nerves. Standing atop the crates, build yourself a tower stacking one crate at a time. See how high you can go…
Boulder: Test your agility, flexibility and strength on our bouldering wall. Bouldering is an enjoyable introduction to rock climbing, without the need for harnesses, helmets or belaying. Traverse from left to right across the wall. There are three levels of challenge, Introductory, Moderate and Challenging. At over 30m long it is sure to test your stamina. Spotters essential.
Canoe: Paddling a canoe at Cave Hill Creek is fun for everyone. With no experience needed, you can paddle across our stunning lake. Explore the shoreline, learn some new strokes and techniques (what is a j-stroke?), raft-up, play some games, and marvel at the beautiful surroundings and the amazing wildlife. If you’re lucky you may even spot a platypus!
Raft Play: Use our whitewater raft (sorry no white water!) to create whirlpools, spins etc. Perfect for summer games on the lake. Be prepared to get (very) wet.
Raft Build: A fun and creative team building activity. The aim – work together as a team to build a raft that floats. Test it by paddling across the lake and back. We supply the drums, logs and rope. You learn some knots, and supply the labour and creative thinking. Good luck! Just think Huckleberry Finn here we come…
