About the artist
Born in London in 1949, Dawn emigrated to Australia in her mid-twenties and embarked on a career as a self-taught outsider artist. Eventually attending University as a non-traditional student, Dawn graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in 1996. For the past 8 years, Dawn has been painting full time and is the recipient of eight Regional Victoria awards. Her work can be found in the Victorian government collection for the Pyrenees Shire and in private collections around Australia and throughout the world. As an artist, Dawn seeks to combine colour and texture in a manner that inspires self-reflection, yet spontaneity. Her work aims to give breath and colour in abstract, yet Daoist style expressions that convey a message of living peacefully and honestly, in harmony with nature. Because of this, art has a spiritual significance to Dawn and her work looks to communicate an intimate moment that will be keenly felt by the audience in a very personal way.
