As part of the Australian National Heritage Festival the Mackereth’s Hedon Farm just outside Avoca will open its doors to the public on Sunday, 2nd of May between 10.30am and 4.30pm. On the property you will find 1000 vines (tradition lives on), plus the 120 year old wine at the front. The interior of the house shows the build; the roof of stripped trees, bolted together, supporting the Lysaght iron. The old kitchen houses the wood-fire oven and bread-oven – here the bricked floor is unchanged. We have used the old store room for a collection of Mackereth memories. Professor Keir Reeves will be at Hedon Farm to answer questions on the area, including the influx of Chinese miners (1850’s).
