Saturday Morning
Breakfast in bed, then strap on some walking shoes and head into Avoca where you can wander the main streets shops. Take in colourful art at Gallery 127 which is located in Avoca’s restored historic railway station and displaying art works by visual artists, sculptors and photographers from within the Pyrenees region and beyond.
Take a drive out to the Pyrenees State Forest. It’s easy to find romance in the scattered light through towering trees and fern filled gullies. After parking at the waterfalls campground, take a short 500m walk along the creek to the impressive seasonal waterfall where you will find water being dumped over a majestic rock face (please note the waterfall is seasonally dry). You can walk to the top of the waterfalls but we suggest you do it with caution as the grass and rocks can be very slippery after damp weather. Governors Rock Lookout offers spectacular views of the hills, bushland and farmland. On clear days you can view a 40km radius of the surrounding region.
Saturday afternoon
Cellar doors with scenic outlooks set the mood for a romantic weekend away. With vineyard views and Mountain landscapes as far as the eye can see, it is easy to spend a lazy afternoon indulging your tastebuds. Take your pick of twenty wonderful wineries and cellar doors each offering their own unique experience. Book in for an intimate lunch and gin tasting at Mrs Bakers Still House or enjoy the garden games at Bigibila Winery or maybe you would prefer to relax on the verandah at Sallys Paddock and soak in the views.

Early riser? Chase down a sunrise from the summit at Ben Nevis while everyone else sleeps. Accessed via the Western Highway Ben Nevis Summit offers amazing views of Mount Buangor and Mt Langi Ghiran. This site is also popular with both hang gliders and rock climbers, and you will see why! Afterwards, warm up over coffee at a top café.
Slept in? Linger over Sunday brunch at Avoca’s O&L Coffe House. The cafe boasts homecooked style meals in a comfy country setting, from traditional toasties to a Ploughman’s Lunch.
Keep an eye out for local markets held monthly which offer live music, fabulous breads and pastries, fresh flowers, artworks, sweets/fudge, artisan jewellery and more.
